Art and Yoga

Yoga offers the body, mind and spirit the ability to find balance and live in the present.  Art also enables one to find voice and express oneself. Offering yoga and art in combination helps one define and strengthen their unique artistic language with clarity.

It gives me great joy to be able to offer a summer youth program with established yoga instructor, Kristie McCourt that combines both the arts and yoga.

PHS jr flower show

In 2016, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society helped our National Parks Service to celebrate their 100th anniversary. The Whitemarsh Arts Center was glad to join in the festivities. Students, ages 3-12 offered over 80 pieces of their best art as part of the PHS jr flower show.

Younger students explored seed art by recreating the NPS symbol. They also enjoyed a reading of Planting a Rainbow and created their own "stained glass" to encourage their seeds to grow despite the dreary winter.

The older students created indigenous inspired pottery and botanical drawings with gilded frames.

There was also a lot of fun to be had as we made the "Wild Ones - Crafty Creatures" from all natural elements.

The PHS judges carefully reviewed and recognized each piece of art and horticulture presented. Our "Best of Show", a ceramic piece created by Hannah Cooper, was then included in the Philadelphia Flower Show in March. Congratulations Hannah and all of the Whitemarsh Art Center students!
